  Besalú

The Miqwé or House of Ritual Baths in Besalú is the only Jewish bath in the Iberian peninsula and the third purifying bath found in Europe. It is a stone house with a quadrant vault, typical Romanic from the 12th century. You can arrive at the underground Mikwé by going down a stone stairs to the place of the religious rites. One of the most well-known rite was the purifying women's bath after the menstrual period, used by jews in old times. Above the Miqwé there is still a piece of the wall of the synagogue near the river, the last remain of a Jewish community of 160 people.

Distance from BEUDA: 4 km.
